Moving forward, the company will focus entirely on innovating and optimizing digital access to games, and players will still be able to purchase digital versions from PSN or retailers. In fact, this transition was already signaled by the design of the PS5 Pro console, which ships without a disc drive. Industry observers widely anticipate that future next-generation consoles will likely abandon disc drives entirely, making the digital format the absolute standard for the PlayStation gaming experience.
