On the day of the incident, two local suspects with criminal records dressed in attire resembling Thai police uniforms and waited by the roadside for targets. They intercepted the two Russian victims, who were riding a motorcycle, and threatened them at gunpoint to carry out a robbery. The situation quickly escalated into violence when the suspects shot the 17-year-old brother twice in the abdomen, killing him instantly. The 22-year-old sister attempted to fight back, but she was brutally beaten to death by the attackers. After committing the crime, the suspects secretly buried the bodies to destroy evidence.

Following an intensive investigation and review of surveillance footage, Thai police rapidly tracked down the suspects. On July 31, law enforcement surrounded and arrested the two suspects as they attempted to flee into a nearby forest. After being captured, one of the suspects claimed that he had tried to stop his accomplice during the incident, but to no avail.
