In the universe of Saint Seiya, the Dark Saints are a group of warriors abandoned by Athena. Corrupted by inner darkness and spiritual decay, they were denied recognition by the authentic Cloths and instead don replicas forged from so-called "Dark Matter." They dwell on Death Queen Island, where they gather as a twisted mirror image of the true Saints. Though they lack the purity and nobility of genuine Saints, some among the Dark Four Heavenly Kings possess power strong enough to rival the Bronze Saints, making them key antagonists during the Galactic War Arc. Ultimately, however, these dark warriors are defeated due to the limitations of their imitation Cloths and the weakness of their inner resolve, unable to overcome the authentic Saints.

Among all the Dark Saints, the strongest is undoubtedly the Dark Phoenix, a clone of Phoenix Ikki. His strength nearly matches the original, and he even managed to overpower Seiya temporarily. His technique, Dark Phoenix Wing Rise, closely mirrors Ikki’s original and boasts formidable destructive force. Yet, he is ultimately defeated by the real Phoenix, whose genuine Phoenix Wing Rise shatters the impostor's cosmos completely, reducing him to ashes. The Dark Dragon is another powerful adversary, mimicking Shiryu with his own version of Dark Rising Dragon Blow, and even wielding a replica of the Dragon Shield.
