Recently, an incident at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport involving Indian travelers drew public attention. A total of 42 Indian nationals were stopped by immigration officers while attempting to enter China and were subsequently deported back to their home country. The reason for this action was that the immigration officers discovered the travelers lacked essential entry documentation and proof: they had no round-trip tickets, no hotel reservations, and insufficient financial proof to support their stay in China.
Under Chinese border control regulations, immigration officers have the authority to conduct strict inspections at entry points. Travelers who cannot clearly explain their travel purpose, lack return tickets or accommodation proof, carry insufficient funds, or are suspected of intending to overstay or work illegally may be denied entry and deported on the same flight. These measures are designed to maintain border management order and prevent illegal stays or employment.
Such procedures are not limited to certain Southeast Asian travelers. Similar practices are commonly implemented at other international airports, including Hong Kong International Airport, Singapore Changi Airport, and entry points in Japan, where travelers lacking complete entry documentation may also be refused entry and deported.
In this case, the 42 Indian travelers were deported because they could not provide the required documents to satisfy immigration requirements. This incident serves as a reminder for international travelers that, when visiting China or other countries, they must ensure they have return tickets, hotel reservations, and sufficient funds prepared in advance to avoid being denied entry.
