Sony (Sony) and Honda (Honda) jointly established Sony Honda Mobility, which launched the AFEELA electric vehicle brand. The vehicle attracted attention from gamers due to its deep integration with PlayStation, earning it the nickname “PS5 car.” AFEELA was originally envisioned as an innovative product that combined entertainment and transportation, transforming the car interior into a mobile entertainment space.

However, according to the latest news in March 2026, Sony Honda Mobility has officially announced the cancellation of the AFEELA electric vehicle series development and launch plans. Initially, the AFEELA vehicle was scheduled to be delivered first in the U.S. in 2026. Its main features included PS Remote Play streaming, allowing passengers to connect remotely to a home PS5 or PS4 via the car’s ultra-wide panoramic screen; native support for the DualSense controller with full haptic feedback; and, for safety reasons, front-seat passengers were only allowed to play games while parked or charging. The car also featured a panoramic In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) system called the “DID” display, spanning the dashboard and presenting dynamic information and entertainment, giving passengers a complete in-car entertainment experience.

AFEELA’s planned specifications and performance were equally impressive. The starting price was set around $89,900 USD (approximately NT$2.82–2.95 million). It featured an all-wheel-drive dual-motor system with a combined output of 483 horsepower. The vehicle was equipped with a 91 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, with an estimated range of 300 miles (about 480 km). Additionally, it included 45 sensors and cameras throughout the car, with plans to support Level 3 or Level 4 autonomous driving, emphasizing a smart and automated mobility experience.

Although the AFEELA project was canceled, Sony continues to pursue mobile entertainment through other products. For example, the PS5 Pro, released at the end of 2024, enhances GPU performance and AI-based graphics improvements, with retail prices ranging from $699 to $899 USD depending on region and adjustments. The PlayStation Portal handheld device, designed specifically for PS5 remote play, offers a similar mobile gaming experience to what AFEELA had intended, allowing players to enjoy full gameplay while on the go.

While the cancellation of AFEELA disappointed many gamers and consumers, it demonstrates Sony and Honda’s long-term ambition to combine entertainment with transportation. In the future, this concept of integrating gaming ecosystems with electric vehicles may still emerge through other products or technologies, creating new entertainment experiences that differ from traditional cars or standalone gaming consoles.
