In North America, the game was released under the title Cowboy Kid. It blends the cheerful, whimsical atmosphere of Ganbare Goemon with the exploration-driven elements of The Legend of Zelda, making it one of the hidden gems of the FC’s late lifecycle.

The story is set in the American Wild West during the frontier era. Players take on the role of a young sheriff named You (Younger), who, along with his companion Bolo (controlled by the second player), sets out to restore peace to a troubled frontier town. Their mission is to hunt down six notorious outlaws known collectively as the “Great Villain Gang.” Beyond combat, the game also incorporates a lively sense of everyday life in Western towns.

One of the game’s most praised features is its high level of freedom and variety.
