As a comprehensive upgrade over its predecessor, it pushed the limits of 8-bit hardware in both visuals and gameplay systems, while expanding the concept of “brawling soccer” onto a global stage. Many longtime players regard it as the finest soccer game available on the Famicom.

Unlike the original, which focused on domestic high school competition, this sequel shifts to an international setting. Players no longer control a single school team, but instead assemble the “Nekketsu Japan National Team,” composed of top fighters from across different schools. Alongside Kunio, familiar rivals such as Riki and Tsukumo join the roster, transforming former enemies into teammates. The game supports one- and two-player modes, and under certain configurations, even multiplayer matches, further enhancing its competitive and social appeal.
