Gameplay-wise, the title follows the traditional side-scrolling action formula but introduces several creative mechanics inspired directly by the source material. Momotaro wields a short blade as his primary weapon, using slashes and jumping attacks to fend off enemies approaching from all directions. The combat leans toward a challenging, unforgiving style, especially during boss encounters, where players must carefully observe attack patterns and react with precision, as mistakes can result in heavy damage. One of the most memorable features is the “cheering recovery” system: when the player’s health is low, Hidemaro appears to perform an exaggerated, passionate cheer. In response, the protagonist regains health after declaring that he can hear his comrades’ voices.
