The story takes place in Europe in the year 1698, during the late seventeenth century. Although peace was meant to follow the end of the War of the Grand Alliance, chaos spreads across the Holy Roman Empire when a mysterious priest known as Father Pacer begins stealing sacred Catholic relics throughout the land. Driven by fanaticism and an unknown supernatural force, he unleashes hordes of monsters and plunges the continent into violence and religious extremism. Players assume the role of Rudiger, a former soldier who retired to live as a farmer after the war. When his homeland is threatened, he is forced to take up arms once again, wielding the forbidden Spear of Sacrilege and embarking on a perilous journey to stop the mad priest and save the empire.
