故事從蘑菇王國的一張宣傳傳單開始。某天,奇諾比奧收到一份來自「星光劇場」的演出邀請,碧姬公主便與眾人一同前往欣賞。然而,就在演出即將開始之際,邪惡的反派角色 Grape 與其手下「Sour Bunch」突然入侵劇場,並全面接管整個舞台。混亂之中,碧姬的王冠與隨身物品被吹散,她也被困在劇場內部。在這樣的危機下,她與劇場的守護者 Stella 相遇,並決定攜手奪回劇場的控制權。

整個遊戲的舞台設定圍繞在劇場內部展開,碧姬與 Stella 必須穿梭於六層樓的不同舞台演出之中,一一解除被佔領的劇目,並擊敗各種被稱為「Darkle Boss」的頭目角色。隨著劇情推進,碧姬能夠依據不同劇目的主題,變身為各種風格鮮明的造型,例如劍士、偵探、甜點師、功夫高手、忍者、西部牛仔、花式滑冰選手、怪盜、人魚以及力量型戰士等。每一種造型不僅外觀不同,也對應完全獨立的操作方式與遊戲機制,讓整體體驗充滿變化。

在這段冒險旅程中,碧姬還必須拯救名為「Sparklas」的角色,他們是各個舞台的核心演員。當所有 Sparklas 被解救後,將獲得更強大的力量,並最終與 Grape 正面對決。在最終戰中,她會變身為「Radiant Peach」,甚至進一步進化為更強的「Super Radiant Peach」,展開最終決戰。即使 Grape 一度復活並摧毀劇場,碧姬仍成功擊敗對手,並以自身力量重建整個星光劇場,為這場舞台冒險劃下完美句點。

在系統設計上,擁有基礎的生命值設定,預設為五顆愛心。當受到傷害或失誤時會扣除體力,透過互動場景或完成特定條件來回復生命。遊戲也提供「Heart Charm」系統,能將最大生命值提升至八顆愛心,提升容錯率。值得一提的是,並沒有傳統的「生命數」與 Game Over 機制,即使失敗也只會扣除部分金幣並回到檢查點,讓整體體驗更加輕鬆流暢。

技術表現方面,在掌機模式下以 720p、30fps 運行,在底座模式下則提升至 900p、30fps。部分過場動畫則以 24fps 呈現,並採用立體聲音效設計。雖然沒有支援環繞音效,但整體視聽表現仍維持穩定水準。

Princess Peach: Showtime! is an action-adventure game developed by Good-Feel and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch, released worldwide on March 22, 2024. The game marks Princess Peach’s long-awaited return as a leading protagonist, coming 18 years after her previous starring role in Super Princess Peach. It also stands as one of the few titles in the Mario franchise where she takes center stage as the primary hero.

The story begins in the Mushroom Kingdom, where a Toad receives a flyer inviting them to a performance at the Sparkle Theater. Princess Peach and several Toads decide to attend, only for the event to be abruptly disrupted by the villainous Grape and her troupe, the Sour Bunch, who seize control of the theater. In the chaos, Peach loses her crown and belongings and becomes trapped inside. She soon meets Stella, the theater’s guardian, and together they set out to reclaim the theater from the invaders.

The entire adventure unfolds within the Sparkle Theater, which is divided into six floors filled with different stage plays. Each play acts as a unique level with its own theme and mechanics. As Peach progresses, she frees the theater from the influence of the Sour Bunch and defeats powerful bosses known as the Darkle Bosses. A defining feature of the game is Peach’s ability to transform into various performance-based roles, including Swordfighter, Detective, Patissiere, Kung Fu master, Ninja, Cowgirl, Figure Skater, Dashing Thief, Mermaid, and Mighty Peach. Each transformation introduces distinct gameplay styles, ensuring that the experience remains varied and dynamic throughout.

During her journey, Peach must also rescue the Sparklas, the stars of each stage play. These characters are essential to restoring the performances and ultimately aid Peach in her final confrontation. As the story reaches its climax, Peach faces Grape and gains access to a powerful transformation known as Radiant Peach. After defeating her once, Grape returns for a final showdown, prompting Peach to ascend into an even stronger form, Super Radiant Peach. With this power, she ultimately overcomes the threat and restores the Sparkle Theater, bringing the story to a triumphant conclusion.

Gameplay in Princess Peach: Showtime! is built around the concept of theatrical performances. Each level feels like an interactive stage production, blending both 2D and 3D platforming elements. Depending on the theme, gameplay can shift dramatically—for example, figure skating sections are presented in 3D, while mermaid stages use a 2D side-scrolling format. Additional gameplay styles, such as auto-running segments, beat ’em up combat, and quick-time events, further enrich the experience.

The game features a forgiving and accessible system. Peach begins each stage with a set number of health points represented by hearts, which decrease upon taking damage. Players can recover health through environmental interactions or specific actions. There is also a Heart Charm that increases her maximum health, making progression more manageable. Notably, the game removes traditional life systems and game overs; instead, failure results in a small coin penalty and a return to the nearest checkpoint, allowing for a smoother and less punishing experience.

From a technical standpoint, the game runs at 720p and 30 frames per second in handheld mode, and 900p at 30 frames per second when docked. Some cutscenes are presented at 24 frames per second, and the audio is delivered in stereo. While not pushing cutting-edge performance, the game maintains a stable and polished presentation.

Overall, Princess Peach: Showtime! successfully combines theatrical creativity with engaging gameplay design. It reinforces Princess Peach’s role as a capable and independent protagonist while offering a colorful, imaginative experience. More than just a long-awaited return, the game feels like a vibrant stage performance brought to life—full of charm, variety, and personality.
