The story is a direct continuation of the narratives established in Tomb Raider: Legend and Tomb Raider: Anniversary, serving as the final chapter of the “Legend Trilogy.” Once again, famed archaeologist-adventurer Lara Croft embarks on a globe-trotting journey to uncover the mystery of her mother’s disappearance and to locate the mythical Mjölnir—the hammer of Thor, son of Odin in Norse mythology. As the plot unfolds, Lara traverses dense Mexican jungles, underwater Mediterranean ruins, ancient Thai temples, the Arctic tundra, and even infernal underworld chambers. The narrative weaves myth and apocalypse into a grand conspiracy, with Lara confronting both the sinister Natla and a dark clone of herself, creating a psychological and physical dual conflict.
For the Wii version, developers tailored the classic blend of platforming, puzzle-solving, and combat to the motion-based controls. Players use the Nunchuk to move Lara and dodge, while the Wii Remote controls the camera, shooting, and interactions. During climbing, jumping, or tool usage, the game requires specific motion inputs—such as shaking the controller to maintain balance, rotating it to activate levers, or mimicking the motion of throwing a grapple. One notable addition is the “Puzzle Interaction System,” where players physically manipulate objects—dragging, rotating, and assembling symbols—using the Wii Remote to enhance the sense of tactile immersion.
Combat remains in third-person shooter style, with Lara’s iconic dual pistols at the forefront. Players can also activate "Adrenaline Mode" (a bullet-time effect) and use simplified melee dodging. The Wii version tones down some of the more complex combo mechanics found in other versions, opting instead for more intuitive motion-based commands. This lowers the overall difficulty while preserving the game’s fluid pacing. Graphically, while not on par with other platforms, the Wii rendition delivers sufficiently atmospheric environments, with decent lighting and water effects optimized for the console’s capabilities.
