"Rabbids Go Home" (Japanese title: ラビッツ・ゴー・ホーム) is an action-adventure game developed and published by Ubisoft, released in 2009 for the Wii. This title marks a major turning point for the Rabbids series, as it is the first game where the "Rabbids" break away entirely from the Rayman universe to become standalone protagonists. It also transitions from the previous party game formula to a single-player adventure featuring a defined storyline and structured level progression.

The game’s story is absurd yet oddly touching. It centers around two crazed Rabbids who one day come up with a brilliant idea: they want to go back to the moon, because they believe that’s their true home. However, instead of building a rocket or using any sort of scientific method, their plan is to pile up Earth’s junk and trash into a massive tower that will reach the moon. To carry out this lunatic plan, the Rabbids must dash around various parts of the city, "collecting" anything they can get their paws on — from shopping carts and washing machines to TVs, toilets, and even the clothes off people’s backs.

Gameplay is presented from a third-person perspective, where the two Rabbids ride in a shopping cart, speeding through levels while gathering items and dodging obstacles. The Wii's motion controls are central to the experience: players tilt the Wii Remote to steer, and shake it to make the Rabbids scream — a move that can repel enemies or activate specific mechanisms. The cart can also dash and jump, and players must use these abilities skillfully to overcome gaps, avoid traps, and sometimes even outrun human guards in chase sequences.

The level design is full of creativity and rhythm. Each stage — from shopping malls and hospitals to airports and sewers — has its own distinct theme and set of challenges. The main antagonists, a group of humans known as the "Verminators," appear as a militarized cleanup crew determined to stop the Rabbids from looting the city, adding conflict and tension to the otherwise chaotic fun. After completing each level, players return to the Rabbids’ hideout, known as the "junkyard paradise," where they can see the tower growing with all the collected junk. Customization is another fun feature — players can dress up their Rabbids with hats, glasses, outfits, and a variety of silly facial expressions.

Visually, the game embraces a bright, cartoon-style aesthetic with exaggerated animations and expressive character designs. The Rabbids’ slapstick antics are emphasized through lively visuals and humorous motion. The soundtrack is especially unexpected, featuring upbeat music with Latin American and Eastern European flavors — from swing jazz to Balkan folk — perfectly matching the Rabbids’ manic energy and enhancing the game’s comedic tone. The game’s chaotic cutscenes, unpredictable humor, and over-the-top sound design make it stand out on the Wii’s library of family-friendly titles.

Critically, Rabbids Go Home received generally positive reviews. Many media outlets and players praised the game for successfully transforming the Rabbids from comedic sidekicks into fully fledged main characters with a quirky narrative and cohesive gameplay. Unlike the earlier mini-game collections, this installment provides a clearer sense of purpose and completion. While the plot is nonsensical, it carries a consistent theme and offers plenty of room for exploration and laughs. On the downside, some reviewers noted that the motion controls could be overly sensitive in certain levels, and the gameplay loop could feel repetitive over time.

Nonetheless, Rabbids Go Home is widely regarded as a milestone in the Rabbids franchise. It redefined the tone and direction of the series and laid the foundation for the Rabbids as a standalone brand within Ubisoft. Today, it remains one of the most creative, eccentric, and charming adventure games available on the Wii. For players who enjoy fast-paced action with a healthy dose of absurd humor, it’s a wild and oddly heartwarming rabbit-fueled journey.
