Recently, China’s high-end all-you-can-eat buffet market has been swept by what has been described as a “battle royale” wave of closures. At the center of this upheaval is the once-celebrated brand “Haidinghui,” which had been hailed as the “top name in the seafood buffet world.”

In the past, Haidinghui earned a stellar reputation in cities such as Xiamen, Quanzhou, and Jinjiang with its abundant seafood selection, refined buffet style, and relatively upscale dining environment. Many customers regarded it as the go-to choice for hosting guests or gatherings. However, in recent days, netizens from multiple cities have reported on social media that several Haidinghui outlets, once bustling with diners, have abruptly closed without any prior warning.

In Quanzhou and Jinjiang, customers discovered that restaurants that had been operating normally just days earlier were now locked up, with “temporarily closed for adjustment” notices posted on the windows and doors. To the shock of many, the situation was the same in Xiamen. The well-known Binbei branch of Haidinghui in Xiamen had also shut down, with an overdue payment notice from the property management pasted at the entrance, stating that the restaurant owed a total of 147,000 yuan in property fees. Prepaid membership cards and dining vouchers purchased by customers were cleared to zero or refunded without notice, leaving many members facing financial losses.
