In Zibo, Shandong, a shocking family dispute has recently drawn wide public attention. Mr. Jiang, after being married for twenty-two years, discovered following his divorce that neither of the two sons he had raised with his ex-wife were biologically his. The revelation devastated him, and in his own words, “When I saw the result, it felt as if the sky had collapsed.”
Mr. Jiang married his ex-wife in December 2002. Their elder son was born in 2004, followed by a younger son in 2014. However, the marriage began to deteriorate, and by 2022 his ex-wife was rarely at home, eventually leading to divorce. According to Jiang’s current wife, he was completely unaware that the children were not his biological offspring at the time of divorce. As a result, he surrendered nearly all of the couple’s assets to his ex-wife, keeping only one car.
After the divorce, the elder son frequently returned to demand money and a share of the property, even becoming physically violent toward Mr. Jiang. It was after one such incident that Mr. Jiang decided to undergo a paternity test. The results were devastating: neither of the children shared his bloodline. Jiang’s mother was heartbroken upon hearing the truth, breaking down and lamenting, “We raised them for over twenty years, and they’re not even ours.”
What added to the heartbreak was the elder son’s attitude. Raised from childhood by his grandparents, he nevertheless treated his grandfather with cold indifference during a civil appeal hearing, as if they were strangers. Mr. Jiang expressed his sorrow, saying that it no longer mattered who the children’s biological father was. No amount of money could make up for the emotional damage he had endured over twenty-two years, and nothing could replace the absence of his own flesh and blood.
During the legal proceedings, the court repeatedly asked his ex-wife to cooperate with paternity testing, but she consistently refused. The case has now moved into formal legal channels and opened on August 20 in Zibo. It involves civil disputes over “fraudulent child-rearing compensation” and “redistribution of property.”
This twenty-two-year marital tragedy has ultimately turned into a legal battle over truth and accountability, once again sparking deep public reflection on trust in marriage and the ethical foundations of family life.
