Yoon Eun-hye recently announced her fan meeting in Shanghai under the title “I Want to Be Close to You.” However, once the ticket prices were revealed, they sparked heated debate and backlash among Chinese fans.
According to media reports, the Shanghai event offers three ticket tiers: 980 RMB, 1,288 RMB, and SVIP 1,520 RMB. The benefits mainly include autographs, photo sessions, and close-up interactions, along with some exclusive merchandise. Notably, the event will not feature stage design or live musical performances, making the overall arrangement relatively simple.
When fans compared these prices with her fan meeting in South Korea earlier this July, the contrast became even sharper. The Korean event had a flat ticket price of 30,000 KRW (about 180 RMB) and came with additional perks such as an autographed album and merchandise worth around 600 RMB. In other words, Chinese fans must pay nearly eight times more than Korean fans while receiving fewer benefits.
This disparity led many Chinese netizens to complain that Yoon Eun-hye was “treating Chinese fans like cash cows.” Some criticized her for overestimating her popularity, pointing out that she is no longer at the peak of her career. Comments such as “This is 2025, not 2015. Does she really think her popularity hasn’t changed?” were widely circulated online.
Yoon Eun-hye first entered the entertainment industry as a member of the girl group Baby V.O.X, which enjoyed strong popularity in South Korea and across Asia. She later gained more fame through variety shows, particularly after forming a popular on-screen couple with Kim Jong-kook. Transitioning into acting, she achieved massive success with hit dramas like Goong (Princess Hours), Coffee Prince, My Fair Lady, and Missing You, making her a household name in both South Korea and China.
However, as newer K-pop idols and actors emerged, her star power gradually faded. This latest controversy over ticket pricing highlights the challenges for once-popular Korean celebrities trying to maintain influence in the Chinese market by relying on nostalgia. For many fans, the “ticket price storm” not only reflects their disappointment in Yoon Eun-hye but also serves as a broader commentary on how fan economy practices exploit loyalty in international markets.
