U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed “Gaza Peace Plan” has led to a major diplomatic breakthrough after months of negotiations. On October 9 (local time), the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) announced that it had reached an agreement with other Palestinian resistance factions to end the Gaza conflict, following talks held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. The discussions, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, resulted in a preliminary accord that observers are calling a historic turning point in the Middle East.

According to Hamas’s official statement, the agreement includes four key components.
First, the complete cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip; second, the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza to end the long-standing military occupation; third, the entry of humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, and medical teams, to relieve the region’s worsening crisis; and finally, a prisoner exchange that will see the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas in return for Palestinian detainees imprisoned by Israel.

Hamas’s statement expressed deep appreciation to Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their diplomatic mediation efforts and—remarkably—extended thanks to President Donald Trump for his “decisive role” in pushing both sides toward a full ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal. This marks the first time Hamas has publicly spoken favorably of a U.S. president, underscoring the significance of the accord on a political level.

The statement also called upon all guarantor nations, Arab and Islamic states, and the international community to ensure Israel implements the agreement fully and without delay. Hamas emphasized that the deal was not only about ending the war but also about restoring normal life and dignity to Gaza’s besieged population.

A day earlier, on October 8, President Trump had announced on his social media platform Truth Social that both Israel and Hamas had signed the first phase of his proposed “20-Point Peace Plan.” Under this framework, both parties agreed to a phased process involving ceasefire implementation, troop withdrawal, and humanitarian relief, with the ultimate goal of achieving long-term stability in Gaza.

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari later confirmed in the early hours of October 9 that all terms and implementation mechanisms for the first phase of the ceasefire had been finalized. He stated that the agreement would bring about the end of the war, the exchange of hostages and prisoners, and the unhindered entry of aid into Gaza, with further details to be released soon.

Analysts view this agreement as a potential turning point in one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history. If successfully implemented, it would mark the formal conclusion of the devastating Gaza war that erupted in late 2023. While experts caution that tensions and disputes may arise during the execution phase, this development has rekindled hope among Palestinians and offered a rare moment of optimism for the long-stalled Middle East peace process.
