On November 29, 2025, the Thai Prime Minister’s Office reported that the death toll from the southern floods had risen to 162, with Songkhla Province being the hardest hit, accounting for 126 of the fatalities. As the severity of the disaster became clear, the government’s focus shifted from emergency response to post-disaster recovery and reconstruction.
Since the outbreak of the floods, southern Thailand has been severely affected. Continuous heavy rainfall caused river levels to surge, resulting in widespread flooding in towns and villages, disrupting transportation, and severely affecting residents’ daily lives. Songkhla Province, the most affected area, suffered extensive property damage, with many families losing their homes and possessions, contributing to the highest death toll in the southern region.
In response to the disaster, the Thai government elevated the emergency response for Hat Yai City to a state of emergency on November 25 and mobilized multiple resources for relief efforts. Affected residents were safely relocated to secure areas, while rescue teams and volunteers assisted in evacuation efforts. With rainfall decreasing, floodwaters are expected to recede within three to five days.
For post-disaster recovery, the government has implemented several measures to support affected families. Through an instant payment system, each household will receive 9,000 baht in relief funds. Debt repayments have been temporarily suspended, and support is being provided through vocational loans and housing repair loans to help alleviate the financial burden on disaster victims.
The international community has also paid close attention to the floods. The Chinese Embassy in Thailand has advised its citizens to avoid affected areas and strengthen personal safety precautions. It is worth noting that early media reports cited the death toll as 145, but as of November 29, the latest official statistics indicate 162 fatalities.
This flood underscores the destructive power of extreme weather in southern Thailand and highlights the importance of coordination and preparedness in disaster prevention and response. Recovery and rebuilding efforts remain the government’s immediate priority.
