延續經典的反派威利博士陰謀。故事背景設定在上一場與威利博士的戰鬥幾個月後,萊特博士的研究所收到一則壞消息:全球管理工業、交通和氣象的超級電腦發生異常,城市陷入混亂,同時武裝機器人趁機攻擊各地。萊特博士調查發現,這些異常源於未知妨害電波,而幕後正是威利博士在操控。洛克人將前往各個受侵襲的城市,擊退入侵的機器人軍團,逐步追查妨害電波的來源,最終對抗威利博士及其設計的新型機器人「龐克」,恢復世界秩序。

Mega Man III (Rockman World 3 / ロックマンワールド3) is the third handheld entry in the Mega Man World series, developed by Minakuchi Engineering and published by Capcom for the Game Boy. Released on December 11, 1992 in Japan and North America, the game continued the portable line of the Mega Man franchise, maintaining the action-platform gameplay of its predecessors while introducing new mechanics—most notably, the chargeable Mega Buster. However, due to tougher enemies and stage designs requiring precise control, it is widely regarded as the most difficult entry in the Game Boy Mega Man World series.
The story takes place several months after Mega Man’s previous battle against Dr. Wily. Dr. Light’s laboratory receives alarming reports: a massive supercomputer, responsible for managing the world’s industries, weather systems, and transportation networks, has malfunctioned, causing chaos across the globe. Taking advantage of the confusion, an army of rogue robots begins attacking cities. Dr. Light discovers that the disturbances are being caused by mysterious jamming waves, and he suspects that Dr. Wily is once again behind the chaos. To restore peace, Mega Man sets off to defeat the rampaging robots, trace the source of the interference, and put an end to Wily’s latest scheme.
The gameplay structure in Mega Man III follows the traditional Mega Man formula, combining elements from the NES titles Mega Man 3 and Mega Man 4. Players can freely select among four initial Robot Masters—Gemini Man, Snake Man, Shadow Man, and Spark Man—and upon defeating them, gain access to four more bosses from Mega Man 4: Dive Man, Drill Man, Dust Man, and Skull Man, before ultimately facing Wily’s fortress.
Mega Man’s main weapon, the Mega Buster, allows him to fire unlimited small energy shots or charge up a powerful blast by holding down the attack button. Defeating each Robot Master grants Mega Man their unique weapon, expanding tactical options in later stages. He is also assisted by his robotic companions—Rush, who can transform into a springboard (Rush Coil) or jet (Rush Jet) to help traverse stages, and Eddie, a helper robot who appears at certain points to deliver random items such as health refills, weapon energy, extra lives, or E-Tanks.
Musically, Mega Man III features rearranged tracks from Mega Man 3 and Mega Man 4, with the stage select and boss introduction themes adapted directly from Mega Man 4. This installment is also notable for being the only Mega Man World game to use the traditional boss introduction music from the main series. Eddie makes his first appearance here, marking the beginning of his recurring role as an item-delivering helper throughout the series.
The game introduces several unique mechanics for the Game Boy platform. Players can revisit previously cleared stages, although once entering the second half of the game, backtracking to earlier levels is not possible. After defeating the first four bosses, Wily’s Fortress appears at the center of the stage select screen. Clearing this area unlocks the next set of Robot Masters, and upon defeating all eight, Mega Man proceeds to Wily’s base for the final showdown. Notably, the original boss Punk, designed as a “Mega Man Killer,” can actually be damaged by his own special weapon—something unique within the handheld series.
Upon release, Mega Man III received positive reviews from both critics and fans. It was praised for its improved visuals, tighter gameplay, and deeper combat mechanics compared to earlier handheld entries. However, its high difficulty drew mixed reactions—some players found the challenge rewarding, while others considered it overly punishing. Despite this, Mega Man III remains a standout title in the Game Boy lineup, celebrated for refining classic Mega Man gameplay into a compact yet challenging form, and is often cited as one of the most technically impressive and memorable handheld entries in the entire franchise.
